Hard work yields pleasing results and proves that momentum is the key to your success. Once you get going, you may find yourself exceeding expectations long before you're ready to quit. This is a great time to start a new health program or an art project. Once you get underway, people around you are bound to take notice. Share your new plans with friends or family; they will provide you with useful help and suggestions. Take the time to rest up and build your enthusiasm, then don't let anything stop you! I finished my OMG 20 PAGE PAPER not five freakin' minutes ago and was just thinking about how I need to finish the fic I'm writing so I can finish Smith and Graves. Wtf? |

Virgin mobile just became my favorite company ever. ![]() Virgin wants you to hook up with a hot gay angel and another, slightly more informative, article that doesn't have a quippy title. |

For those of you who, like me, could always use a new excuse to procrastinate, have a meme. A.V. Club came up with a list of the 50 best films of the '00s. You know the drill: bold the ones you've seen, italicize the ones you've seen part of. ( what's sad is that I took the time to copy this list from the webpage ) |

Now, I'm one of the last people to complain about the recycling of ideas in Hollywood. I'm generally a fan of franchise films, the recent Transformers and Terminator installments aside, and I appreciate it when stories that have been previously unavailable to me, whether because of region of release or the passage of time, are made accessible through whatever means. I even enjoy the occasional remake. But I came across two things today that have me a little puzzled. The film Repo Men is due out next April and the IMDB summary reads, "Set in the near future when artificial organs can be bought on credit, it revolves around a man who struggles to make the payments on a heart he has purchased. He must therefore go on the run before said ticker is repossessed." Does this sound a little familiar to anyone else? Now, this one I sort of understand. Musicals aren't for everyone and Repo! is a little hard to palate, even for the showtunes set. It's hard to tell, though, based on the little information available, just how divorced the remake (spinoff?) will be from the original in terms of style and premise. Reserving judgment til I see it. The one that's got me sort of reeling, though, is Death at a Funeral. Based on the trailer, it appears to be a scene-for-scene remake of the British film that came out just two years ago, perhaps with slightly different jokes. It even has Peter Dinklage playing exactly the same part. What's even weirder is that this movie came out in the states. Hell, I saw it in Memphis. I find it hard to believe that it was more cost-effective to produce an entirely new film (and not a low-budget throw-away, either. there are some major names in the remake.) than to launch an actual advertising campaign. I love movies, but sometimes the people who make them do things that confuse me. And speaking of confusing movies (or at least confusingly successful franchises), here's the Top 20 Unfortunate Lessons Girls learn from Twilight, with accompanying video from RiffTrax (from the people who brought you MST3K). It's sad because it's true. Also, I have dragged my roommate simultaneously into obsessive love with both Doctor Who and Supernatural. She's spent the last week or so marathoning both and burying herself in Dean/Castiel fic. I am truly evil. |

I've spent the last two days researching and writing about pornography legislation in US, and I never want to see the phrase "virtual child pornography" ever again. The good news is that I turned out a pretty solid and interesting paper, finished an hour before it was due. Go me. Now I just have to finish that 20-page paper, do that take-home final, write that novel, make that costume, finish that application, make those presents... *sigh* It never ends. |

Ok, so, Killing Bono (the original UK title is I was Bono's Doppleganger) is a spectacular autobiography by this guy who went to school with Bono and how he (the guy, obviously, not Bono) utterly failed at becoming a rock star. I read this book a few years ago and LOVED it. It's funny and telling and you don't have to be a U2 fan to appreciate it. Now why, you may ask, am I talking about a book that came out five years ago? Because they're making a movie, and I know, I know, it's not going to come out in the US ever, but I don't care. The screenplay is by the people who did The Commitments, which is possibly one of my favorite movies ever, and Ben Barnes is playing the guy, which... yeah. There is some serious squee going on over here. In totally unrelated, but much geekier, news, a bunny (yes, Ok, now I really need to finish this presentation for tomorrow. The only problem is that I have all this information and data and no idea what it all means. *sigh* Also, Spike is running the original Star Wars trilogy over and over. Luke is still a whiny bitch farm boy. It's awesome. |

My horoscope today: Still thinking about school or adding to your resume? Well, that's great -- but be sure whatever courses you sign up for will benefit not just your credentials, but also your heart, soul and mind. What about taking a class on a subject you've always been fascinated with? Even if it's not a supposedly 'marketable' subject -- at least, according to your current path -- it could turn out to be invaluable. Everyone needs to follow their bliss. Don't lose sight of yours.

So I'm not so sure I like weekends. Do I need the break from school? Of course. Do I get work done? Absolutely. But I've come to the conclusion that I really cannot stand staying in a house by myself. During the day, it's fine. I can find stuff to do. But nighttime in an empty apartment? No thanks. Not sure why. And, if that wasn't depressing enough, here's two links about how much people suck. Anybody got any happy links to share? |

I think it's about time for another Conversations with Dean Winchester. What do you guys think? In totally unrelated news, I'm watching Lady Gaga's performance on SNL (don't ask. I'm not sure how the tv got hear), and, not only do I actually like the music (had never actually heard it before), I think the sheer bizarre visuality has crossed the line from stage show into actual performance art. She kind of reminds me of Freddy Mercury, which tends to endear people to me. <3? |

A Different Way to Look at Disney Princesses. I'm sure everyone's sick of the back-and-forth about Disney's issues with race, class, feminism, etc, but I think this macro takes a different perspective on the argument about the portrayal of women and the absence of strong female characters. While I would argue that some of these summations oversimplify the narrative, the creator does have a point. I'm interested to hear anyone else's reactions, especially if you disagree. In case you missed And, on a lighter note, Vampires don't seem to be getting along. |

From io9: Is Science Fiction Feminized or is it Sexist? Both. a great essay about the role of women in science fiction. The main post is terrific, but the comments provide some really wonderful food for thought. |
